NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
New Members accepted into the Association - David R. Mills, John Fredricksen, Carolyn Fredricksen, Peter Alan Hunt and Sean Connolly. Welcome. We sincerely hope that your membership and participation in club events will exceed you expectations.
The club has again become affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). CMP affiliation affords club members certain benefits that include the purchase of surplus military arms. For a complete list of the benefits of CMP affiliation please see the CMP web site at www.odcmp.org.
Scott Smith has been affirmed by the membership as Vice President. We all wish Scott well in his new role.
Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp
The club will sponsor a Member’s child, boy or girl aged 13 to 17, to attend the Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp beginning Sunday, August 10th, 2008 and ending Friday, August 22nd, 2008. Camp programs offer a healthy blend of wildlife, conservation, and outdoors subjects as well as shooting and archery programs. For more information on the camp go to www.juniorconservationcamp.org or see the Link to the Conservation Camp on the G.O.A.L. web site. A youth interested in being sponsored by the club to attend the camp must submit a 250 word (minimum) essay to the Board of Directors describing why and how they would benefit from participation in the Junior Conservation Camp. Slots are available at the camp on a first come first served basis. The sooner essays are received and evaluated by the Board of Director’s, the more likely an individual will be assigned an available slot. Essays can be submitted at any Board of Director’s or Membership meeting or they can be mailed to the club in care of the Secretary at PO Box 261, Mansfield, MA 02048-0261.
ACTIVITIES & Coming Events
Semi Auto Shoot
By the time you read this, the Semi-Auto Shoot, scheduled for March 15, 2008, just might be another one for the history books. But … with a Rain date of March 29, 2008 there still might be time … check the web site www.mansfieldfish.com.
Range Safety
Officer Class
An RSO class has been scheduled for Saturday, April 19th and Sunday, April 120h, 2008. The cost will be $70 for a GOAL member. Anyone interested should contact Richard Cole for a pre-registration form or go to www.mansfieldfish.com.
Armed Response
Training
Dave Kenik will be holding two classes in his Armed Response training sequence at the club. Armed Response 1 will be held on April 26th & 27th, 2008. Armed Response 2 will be held on June 21st & 22nd, 2008. These classes are open to all shooters. Follow the Calendar of Events link at www.mansfieldfish.com for all of the details.
Black Powder Shoot
Ken Anderson says that Saturday, May 4th, 2008 will start the black powder outdoor shooting season at Mansfield Fish & Game. Keep the date open and watch the web site for more details if black powder shooting is your game!
Ladies Only LTC
Class
May 10th, 2008 has been tentatively set as the date for a Ladies Only LTC Class. This class will be open to club members and the wives of club members only. Cost of the class is $40. This class is for female shooters only and will be taught by a female instructor. Lynne Dube has been a certified MA and NRA Firearms Safety Instructor for 8.5 years. She and her husband, Edward, have taught hundreds of students in that time. She's been a gun owner since 1992 and has won many trophies in various hand gun competitions. While she enjoys teaching everyone to shoot her favorite classes are those that focus on female shooters.
Conventional (Bullseye) Pistol
To some, this shooting discipline is known as Kenjuudo or “Way of the Pistol”. It can be, and has been, considered an oriental martial art. In this sport the mind must overtake the body to create a literal “machine rest” from what is 95% water, the human body. After that all you have to do is squeeeeeeze the trigger to hit that X or 10 ring. Sounds easy, huh.
Convention Pistol (Bullseye) Matches will start on June 5th at 7PM on the 50 yard range. If you’d like to learn a little more go to www.bullseyepistol.com.
