2008 Bullseye Pistol League
Our 2008 League meets every Thursday evening at 6:30, and we welcome new shooters. Our league isn’t just for experts; it’s for anyone interested in learning about formal, competitive pistol target shooting, as well as for those who are already proficient in this challenging sport. Newcomers, both men and women, are always welcome, and you don’t need to be a club member to shoot in the league.
If you’re new to the game, don’t worry, we’ll help you learn the basics..
Juniors are also welcome, but only under the direct supervision of a qualified parent. The parent will not be permitted to shoot while supervising the junior shooter.
The fee for each match is $5.00.
The match is fired at a 50-foot target distance. We shoot a standard “Gallery Course” (also called a “National Match Course”), which consists of a total of 30 shots, fired in three stages: Slow Fire, Timed Fire, and Rapid Fire.
As with many sports, you’ll need certain equipment to participate:
Eye and ear protection (absolutely required!).
Ammunition. All ammunition used is .22 caliber Standard Velocity. The use of high-velocity ammunition is not recommended.
Firearm (It’ll be difficult without one.)
While revolvers are acceptable, most shooters use an auto-loading pistol.
Beginners should not worry about having an expensive, highly-accurate target gun. Pretty much any .22 handgun will suffice at first, while you determine whether or not you like the sport, and begin to develop a basic skill set. Concern about scores should come much later.
Guns with iron (“open”) sights are perfectly acceptable. However, most shooters prefer to use a non-magnifying red-dot scope. These are relatively inexpensive,
a decent scope costing around $130.00.
You should also consider bringing the following equipment:
● Extra magazines. We recommend a total of four to six,
but you should definitely have at least two.
● Inexpensive electronic kitchen timer.
● Ball-point pen for identifying and scoring targets.
● Screwdriver for adjusting sights.
● Inexpensive spotting scope (it’s only 50 feet; you don’t
need the Hubble telescope).
● Comfortable shoes with decent arch support (walking or
running shoes, sneakers, etc.).
We also require all shooters to sign a “hold harmless” liability agreement prior to being allowed to participate.
